POSITIVITY (coffee table format)

A modular piece made from birchwood. 2024.

Modular piece: 300 x 300 x 15mm

Despite its structural appearance and modularity, Positivity is a poetic piece that speaks of friendship, support and how we are in constant need of our close ones to stay upright. Without our support network we will fall apart, just like the + shaped pieces in Positivity will if one of the pieces is removed. By not using any glue or joinery, Positivity relies on the support of each piece to connect to the other, creating a loop of tension once a glass sheet is placed between the top pieces. When this tension has been created, the piece becomes an experimentative coffee table. This is a thought experiment on how to tell a story through a piece of furniture, only using timber, glass and the natural forces.

BJARNE

Coffee table x daybed made from birch and curly birch. 2024.

Bjarne is a coffee table that extends into a daybed. This piece uses a synergy of curly birch and normal birch to create a tabletop surface that draws inspiration from the Finnish Räsymatto.

The top surface uses a hierarchy of materials, where the larger pieces are made from curly birch, a material with great significance in Finnish culture, and the smaller pieces are made from regular birch. This patterns of wood appears almost weaved together on two pieces of sting that hold them in place and, together with a sliding dovetail mechanism, allows the table surface to extend or contract.

The legs are designed to work as a pair when the piece is in its coffee table format but also work independently in the daybed format.

JONATHAN

A tray made from solid oak wood. 2025.

The design is based on a comfortable grip when lifting and carrying the piece, with a small rim that helps secure the items on the tray when carried.

300 x 300 x 40mm

LINA

A side table / stool made from birchwood scraps. 2025.

Lina is entirely made from leftover birchwood. It is a zero-waste driven design that hopes to encourage others to use the smaller pieces of leftover wood that we have available in our wood workshops.
